Bharat Rangers owner Rohit Agrawal is passionate about promoting cricket in Vidarbha. As the second season of the Vidarbha Premier League (VPL) kicks off, his main goal is simple: he wants to see more local players wearing the India jersey and making it to the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Agrawal believes success in the VPL can help players catch the eye of IPL teams. He stated, “I want to see more cricketers from Vidarbha represent India and dominate in domestic leagues.” His commitment to developing talent is clear. He wants Bharat Rangers to provide top-notch facilities and mentorship for all players, not just those on his team. “Every cricketer participating in the VPL is important to us. I’d be thrilled if any of them made it to the national level,” he shared.
His love for cricket runs deep. “I’ve played since I was a child, and my son Manan is also part of the squad,” he noted. Agrawal’s family strongly believes in sports as a means to build a better society. “Rather than just building schools and hospitals, I wanted to focus on promoting sports,” he explained.
The VPL is a major platform for around 100 upcoming cricketers to showcase their talent. Agrawal praised the Vidarbha Cricket Association’s efforts to launch the league: “It’s a great initiative. It provides much-needed visibility and growth opportunities.”
He views the VPL as more than just a game; it’s an industry. “This league creates about 300 indirect jobs, contributing to the economy. I believe VPL will grow significantly, possibly rivaling IPL in value in the future,” he said. Alongside entertainment, he sees it as a means for players to advance their careers.
During the player auction, Agrawal appreciated the professional setup led by renowned commentator Charu Sharma. “We strategized on how to bid for various players and worked hard to retain our key talents,” he mentioned.
Despite challenges, like losing player Nachiket Bhute temporarily, Agrawal remains optimistic. “We’re happy with our team and hopeful for a lively turnout this season. We’re aiming for at least five times the viewership compared to last year,” he remarked.
As cricket captures hearts in India, Agrawal encourages local fans to support and cheer for the players. With his vision and commitment, he’s determined to make a significant impact on the cricketing landscape in Vidarbha.
For expert perspectives, the importance of grassroots cricket development has been emphasized by cricket analysts worldwide. Research from the International Cricket Council shows that local leagues significantly boost player readiness for professional competitions.
Promoting local sports not only supports player development but can also enhance community engagement and foster national pride in sports. Engaging fans, like Agrawal encourages, creates a strong support system for emerging talent.
As this season of VPL unfolds, it has the potential to be a vital stepping stone for many young cricketers dreaming big.
