New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS) India’s Davis Cup captain, Rohit Rajpal, is excited about the upcoming home match against Togo. He believes this is a fantastic chance to nurture future stars in a supportive environment.
The Davis Cup matches are set for February 1-2. The Indian team includes Sasikumar Mukund, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Karan Singh, N. Sriram Balaji, and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli. Mukund, currently ranked 368, is returning to the squad after competing against Morocco.
Captain Rajpal is thrilled that the team will play at home, especially after a stretch of away games, which included a historic tie in Pakistan. He mentioned, “Playing in home conditions is always beneficial. We have traveled a lot in the last few seasons. The slow, hard courts at the DLTA will suit us well.”
Togo’s team, led by key player Thomas Steodji, comes into this contest with three recent wins against Latvia, Indonesia, and Benin. Rajpal acknowledges the challenge ahead but sees a great opportunity for player development. “This tie will help us groom the next generation. With the home support, we can definitely leverage our advantage,” he added.
Starting January 23, the Indian team will begin training at the DLTA Complex. New additions Aryah Shah, Chirag Duhan, and Yuvaan Nandal will join the squad for training, which will be a valuable experience for them.
The DLTA is also preparing for the event by enhancing the venue. Improvements include the creation of a players’ lounge near the center court to welcome both the visiting team and home fans.
