The Rolling Stones are back with a new album, “Foreign Tongues,” set to launch on July 10 through Capitol Records. This album features 14 tracks and comes less than three years after their Grammy-winning release, “Hackney Diamonds.” The lead single, “In the Stars,” dropped on May 5, alongside the opening track “Rough and Twisted.”
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood will be promoting the album during a media event in Brooklyn, New York. They will also appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” for three nights, starting May 6.
In a surprising move, the band recorded “Foreign Tongues” in just under a month at Metropolis Studios in London. They teamed up again with Andrew Watt, the Grammy-winning producer who previously worked on “Hackney Diamonds.”
Alongside the main trio, bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Matt Clifford, and drummer Steve Jordan contributed to the album. Fans will be interested to know that it also features Charlie Watts, recorded during one of his last sessions before his passing in 2021.
The album boasts impressive guest artists, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Jagger described the recording process as intense yet rewarding, saying, “I like the room there as it’s not too big, so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
Richards emphasized the album’s continuity with “Hackney Diamonds.” He noted that working in London brought a special vibe and made for an enjoyable and focused month of recording. Wood echoed this sentiment, highlighting the creative atmosphere that allowed the band to nail tracks on their first try.
The album cover art, created by Nathaniel Mary Quinn, captures the essence of the band’s legacy. Quinn shared that designing the cover was an artistic honor, noting the Stones’ significant impact on culture.
