Romero Shines in Thrilling Round Two Finish – Highlights from University of Oregon Athletics

Lake Elmo, Minn. – Junior Kiara Romero had an impressive day, scoring a 3-under 69 and leading the Oregon women’s golf team in the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Royal Golf Club.

The No. 2 Ducks improved their score significantly, finishing the round at 2-over 290. They now sit in sixth place among 12 teams, at 11 over. USC and Wake Forest are tied for the lead, both at 1 under par.

Romero’s performance shined on the back nine, where she made four birdies and even an eagle. She tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard alongside sophomore Tong An, who shot a solid 1-under 71. Both players are seven strokes behind leader Eila Galitsky from South Carolina.

Romero started off even after the front nine. After a rough start on the back with a bogey, she quickly turned things around with three birdies in a row. Despite a double bogey at No. 15, she regained her momentum with a birdie on the 16th hole and then made an eagle on the 17th, marking Oregon’s first eagle of the year.

This is notable for Romero, who has shot in the 60s 25 times over her career, showing her consistency and skill on the course. An, also making her mark, had a tough start but went on to finish with 14 consecutive pars, accumulating 28 pars over the two rounds.

Suvichaya Vinijchaitham, another sophomore, contributed with a 1-over 73, matching Romero for the team’s lead with five birdies. Freshman Sophie Han completed the team’s scoring with a 5-over 77.
