“It will be amazing to return home and experience that atmosphere,” McIlroy said. He was upbeat after his final round, highlighting the confidence he gained from six birdies, particularly four on the back nine. He tied for 19th overall.

However, he found some positives at Oakmont. “I’ve driven the ball well all week,” he noted, crediting improvements in his swing. “I hope to carry this forward into next week.”

Looking ahead to the British Open, McIlroy knows it will be a special event. "If I can’t get excited about playing an Open Championship at home, then what can motivate me?" he said, reflecting on his need to find the right mental space after a challenging few weeks.
