Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia held discussions this week with U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, about key issues in Gaza and Ukraine. This meeting was part of a visit by Rubio and two other senior members of the Trump administration, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff.

Before their meeting with the Crown Prince, Rubio also spoke with the Saudi foreign minister, Faisal bin Farhan. However, details about the discussions with the Crown Prince were limited. A short video showed the prince expressing his willingness to collaborate with the Trump administration.
Rubio arrived in Riyadh after a visit to Israel. During this meeting, he aimed to encourage Saudi leadership to present a vision for Gaza’s future. Trump’s controversial proposal to depopulate and occupy Gaza has faced backlash in the Arab world, including in Saudi Arabia. This has prompted U.S. officials to seek alternative plans from Arab leaders.
On the following day, the U.S. envoys were expected to meet with Russian officials in Riyadh to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump’s earlier unconsulted communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin about Ukraine created tensions not only with Arab allies but also with European partners who felt sidelined, despite the conflict’s proximity to their borders.
This situation highlights the complexities of international relations and the importance of collaboration in addressing global conflicts. As the discussions unfold, the outcomes may significantly steer future policies in both Ukraine and Gaza.
