KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia has launched a major drone assault and aerial strikes across Ukraine, resulting in at least four fatalities, according to local officials. These attacks come as U.S. former President Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to end the ongoing conflict.

On Sunday morning, airstrikes targeted Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, claiming three lives and injuring four others. Additionally, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a drone attack on Pavlohrad killed one person and injured a 14-year-old girl. This area has experienced attacks for three consecutive nights.
Russia recently announced it has regained control over parts of the Kursk region, previously taken by Ukrainian forces last August. However, Ukrainian officials contend that fighting in Kursk continues.
Trump, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Pope Francis’ funeral, expressed doubts on social media about the possibility of peace in Ukraine. He emphasized that there was “no reason for Putin” to target civilian areas.
The conversation between Trump and Zelenskyy marked their first face-to-face meeting since a tense Oval Office exchange earlier in the year. Amid these discussions, Trump hinted at potential additional sanctions against Russia.
In the latest wave of attacks, Russia deployed 149 drones, of which Ukraine’s air force managed to intercept 57 and jam another 67. Damage was also reported in the Odesa region and Zhytomyr, where several people were injured.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, five Ukrainian drones were shot down in Bryansk, and three were intercepted over the annexed Crimean peninsula. Moreover, Ukrainian shelling resulted in multiple injuries in the partially occupied city of Horlivka.
As the situation escalates, both military experts and local residents express growing concern over the humanitarian impact of these ongoing attacks. According to recent statistics from analysts, civilian casualties in this conflict have increased sharply, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution.
