Rutgers Softball Dominates Midweek Matchup Against Saint Peter’s

Rutgers Softball had an impressive day, sweeping a doubleheader against Saint Peter’s. They won the first game 16-8 and secured a 12-3 victory in the second. These wins pushed their season record to 13-10.

In the first game, Riley Hwang stood out with a grand slam and six RBIs. She also hit two doubles and scored four times. Kelsey Hoekstra and freshman Rachel Millan each added home runs, with Millan hitting her first collegiate homer. The Scarlet Knights’ offense was strong, with eight players contributing to the score.

Pitcher Brooke Shifflett improved her record to 5-3, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out six batters. The team jumped to a quick 10-0 lead, thanks to back-to-back homers and aggressive base-running.

Saint Peter’s made a comeback attempt, cutting the lead to 12-8, but Rutgers regained control. Hwang’s performance was a highlight, marking the most RBIs by a Scarlet Knight since 2017.

In the second game, Hwang and Sam Rohwer both hit home runs, with Rohwer recording four RBIs as Rutgers scored early and didn’t look back. The team piled on runs with strong plays, sealing the game with a five-run fifth inning.

This doubleheader showcased Rutgers’ potential and depth, indicating they could be a strong contender in their upcoming matches. They’ll face Indiana soon for more Big Ten action.
