Michigan dominated from the start, maintaining a lead for nearly the entire game. They shot impressively, scoring 1.44 points per possession. Their shooting stats were impressive too: 60% from the field, 44.8% from three-point range, and an effective 78.1% at the rim. They also managed to grab 14 second-chance points and blocked eight shots during the game.
In stark contrast, Rutgers struggled. They committed 16 turnovers, shot just 35.8% overall, and assisted only on 10 of their 24 field goals. Interestingly, Michigan scored 52 points in the paint—almost matching Rutgers’ total points for the game.
Historically, Rutgers has struggled when falling behind early this season. They’ve lost five games when down by double digits, with an average loss margin of 20 points.
Looking ahead, Rutgers won’t play again until next Saturday when they meet Seton Hall. In their previous matchup last season, the Scarlet Knights emerged victorious, but with Seton Hall’s strong start this year, the upcoming game will be another tough challenge.
Pikiell remains optimistic, stating, “We need to play better. It’s early December. We have to learn from this. No one feels sorry for us. We have enough talent in this locker room to figure it out.”
