Ryan Reynolds had a fun night in New York City recently, showering his friend and “Deadpool” co-star Hugh Jackman with compliments during Jackman’s musical show. But true to their playful banter, he also couldn’t resist throwing in some lighthearted jokes.
At the premiere of Jackman’s revue “Hugh Jackman: From New York, With Love” at Radio City Music Hall, Reynolds cheered from the crowd, calling Jackman his “gotcha for life.”
Reynolds joked about a bit they were supposed to do, where he would get the microphone taken away by security. He joked that they might tase him, tie him up, and dump him in the “Radio City Music garbage dump,” jokingly setting it on fire. But then he got serious, expressing, “I love this man. He is genuinely the best person I know. And I have four kids!”
Reynolds later praised Jackman on social media, surprised by his friend’s singing and dancing skills. He humorously referred to Jackman’s Wolverine persona, saying he only knew him for his grunting and stabbing. He described the show as “an immersive retrospective and jamboree of feeling, giggles, and joy.”
He also shared that he attended the show with director Shawn Levy, calling it a “core memory” to see Jackman perform, and rated the experience “4.9 stars out of 5” because he hoped for a car chase.
Jackman’s show is part of a special 24-performance run at Radio City Music Hall. He’ll sing songs from his broad range of works, including hits from “The Greatest Showman,” “Les Miserables,” and more.
Jackman shared his own thoughts about the night on Instagram. He posted a photo featuring Reynolds and Levy smiling from their seats and wrote about the night’s emotional highs and lows, mentioning the love and energy from the audience. “What an incredible night it was,” he reflected, highlighting the shared joy among everyone in attendance.
