‘S.N.L.’ Hilariously Revives Iconic Trump-Zelensky Oval Office Showdown

A tense meeting took place between President Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, raising concerns about a diplomatic crisis and hinting at a rift in the long-standing U.S.-Europe relationship. This incident quickly became the subject of satire on “Saturday Night Live,” which aired its first episode after celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Hosted by Shane Gillis, the show kicked off with a humorous voice-over, suggesting that the Trump-Zelensky meeting had gone exceptionally well. The narrator joked that viewers felt reassured and believed, “the world is now a safer place.”

In the skit, Mikey Day played Zelensky while James Austin Johnson portrayed Trump, who introduced himself as the “President and CEO of Gaza Hotel and Casino.” He described the meeting as an “incredible trap” and hinted at impending changes in a mocking tone.

Bowen Yang, playing Vice President JD Vance, added comic relief with the line, “Watch out, ‘cause this kitty’s got claws.”

When Johnson’s Trump asked Marcello Hernández, acting as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, if he was excited to attack their European ally, Hernández humorously responded with a blank stare, claiming, “Um, no Inglés.”

Johnson continued with playful jabs, complimenting Zelensky’s attire, likening it to “casual Star Trek,” and joking about his love for the show because “there’s no D.E.I.” Such moments highlighted the show’s blend of humor with timely political commentary, showcasing its ability to address serious topics while keeping audiences entertained.
