Saga Nutrition Partners with Mondi to Launch Eco-Friendly, Recyclable Pet Food Packaging

French pet food company Saga Nutrition recently joined forces with packaging provider Mondi to roll out new recyclable bags for dry pet food. This shift, made in October 2024, aims to replace traditional plastic packaging with more eco-friendly options.

The innovative packaging, called the re/cycle FlexiBag, meets specific recycling standards. It’s designed to protect food from moisture, fat, and odors while being completely recyclable. Available in sizes starting at 3 kilograms, this new packaging choice aligns well with the rising consumer preference for sustainability in pet food packaging.

CEO Jérôme de Solliers highlighted the importance of this collaboration: “This is a significant step in our sustainability journey. We’re committed to supporting a circular economy and still delivering the quality our customers expect.”

In recent years, the push for sustainable packaging has gained momentum. A survey by the Packaging Association found that nearly 70% of consumers prefer brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging. This trend reflects a broader shift towards sustainability across various sectors, including food and beverage.

Olivier Werbrouck from Mondi echoed this sentiment, stating, “Partnering with Saga Nutrition means we’re together creating packaging that champions a circular economy in the pet food market.”

Saga Nutrition, which has 30 employees and offers a full range of dry dog and cat food, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025. This sustainability initiative is part of their ongoing commitment to the environment and their customers.

The move to recyclable materials not only meets demand but also sets a precedent in the industry, paving the way for other companies to follow suit. As consumers increasingly seek brands that align with their values, these developments are crucial for companies aiming to stay relevant in the evolving market.
