NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Samford men’s golf team wrapped up the Gulf Coast Collegiate, placing eighth at the English Turn Golf and Country Club. The tournament was held on Monday and Tuesday, on a challenging par-72 course that stretches 7,078 yards.
Samford finished with a total score of 892 over three rounds, with scores of 305, 292, and 295. Louisiana-Monroe took home the trophy by scoring 856 (293-278-285).
Leading the way for Samford was Matthew Smith, who achieved a total of 219 (73-70-76), finishing tied for 16th among 96 players. Tiaan Hugo followed closely with a score of 220 (77-71-72), placing tied for 19th. Garrison Guthrie scored 224 (77-75-72), tying for 37th. Both Brian Boles (80-76-76) and Taylor Kuehn (78-79-75) finished with identical scores of 232, landing them tied for 65th.
Playing as an individual, Craig Sanders also had a solid performance, tying for 37th with a score of 224 (75-77-72).
Next, Samford will head to Aiken, S.C., for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational on March 10-11.
