Sammy, who was the frontman for Van Halen from 1985 to 1996 and again from 2003 to 2005, thinks their strained relationship stems from Alex not being able to perform as before. He told Rolling Stone, “I think Al’s angry because I’m out doing it, and Mike [Anthony, former bassist] and I are still in the game.”

The loss of their legendary guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, in 2020 deeply impacted the band. Alex has faced health issues, including a spinal injury that affects his drumming. Sammy remarked, “He seems like he doesn’t want to play drums anymore, and he can’t go write a new record.”

Sammy continues to celebrate their legacy through his Las Vegas residency, stating, “I’m out there selling Van Halen records, keeping the music alive.” He emphasized that if the roles were reversed, he’d feel terrible about not being able to perform anymore.

Recently, he released a new single, “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,” inspired by a dream where he and Eddie reunited musically. Sammy said, “This was one hundred percent a communication from the beyond.”
