Samyang Foods Hits 2 Trillion Won in Sales in 2025, Driven by Buldak Spicy Ramyeon Success – UPI.com

Samyang Foods Inc. recently announced that it surpassed 2 trillion won (about 1.4 billion USD) in annual sales for the first time since its launch in 2025. This impressive milestone is largely thanks to the soaring popularity of its Buldak spicy ramyeon.

Sales jumped 36% last year, climbing from 1.72 trillion won to 2.35 trillion won. Since launching in 2012, Buldak ramyeon’s popularity has skyrocketed, with more than 9 billion units sold and total revenue exceeding 5 trillion won. The product gained fame after becoming a viral sensation during food-eating challenges in 2014, when its extreme heat caught the attention of spice lovers worldwide.

To keep up with this demand, Samyang is broadening its export markets and enhancing distribution in Europe and the U.S. The company is also ramping up domestic production and has started building its first overseas factory in China to ensure steady supply.

Financially, Samyang has seen significant gains. Net profit rose by 43%, reaching 387.56 billion won, while operating profit spiked 52% to 523.94 billion won.

According to food industry expert Dr. Kim Lee, “The rise in demand for spicy foods reflects changing consumer tastes, especially among younger generations who seek bold flavors.”

In a recent survey, 65% of consumers aged 18-30 in South Korea reported they enjoy spicy foods more than ever. This trend showcases not just a preference but a cultural shift toward embracing diverse and intense flavors in everyday meals.

Samyang’s strategy to invest in production and distribution is aimed at maintaining this upward trend. The company aims to meet global demand while solidifying its reputation in the competitive ramen market.
