San Antonio Police Officer Suspended Following Intoxicated Crash Incident
A San Antonio police officer, Luis Carrillo, has been indefinitely suspended after fleeing the scene of a crash while under the influence. The suspension was confirmed by Police Chief William McManus on October 23, 2025. Officer Carrillo joined the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) in 2023.
On June 11, 2025, at around 12:30 a.m., SAPD officers responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Wurzbach Parkway and Blanco Road. Witnesses noted that a driver left his car after hitting a median and a pole. One caller mentioned that the driver appeared intoxicated and was stumbling over his words.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an SAPD jacket belonging to Carrillo. Records indicate the damaged vehicle was registered to him. A supervisor later learned that Carrillo had asked an off-duty officer for a ride home from a nearby park. This officer confirmed that Carrillo seemed drunk and admitted to being involved in the accident, claiming he “panicked” and left the scene.
Surprisingly, court records show that Carrillo has not faced any criminal charges related to this incident. The SAPD has conducted its investigation and has referred the case to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
Officer misconduct may not be rare, but it raises significant concerns. According to a recent report from the National Police Foundation, about 20% of law enforcement officers admit to having to deal with issues related to alcohol. This highlights a pressing need for more support and accountability within the force.
As social media discusses the incident, many are calling for stricter measures to address police behavior. The public reaction underscores the challenges that come with accountability in law enforcement.
