San Diego Airport Technical Glitches: What Led to the Tragic Plane Crash?

Investigators are looking into the tragic plane crash in San Diego that took place early Thursday morning. A Cessna 550 went down in a residential area, causing significant damage. Sadly, all six people on board are presumed dead, including music industry figures like Dave Shapiro, an agent for several well-known bands, and Daniel Williams, a former drummer for The Devil Wears Prada.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are sifting through evidence. They noted that the aircraft lacked a flight data recorder, which could have shed light on the crash. The NTSB is also collaborating with the FBI to gather information.

During the crash, initial reports suggest the plane hit power lines before crashing down just two miles from Montgomery Field Airport. At the time, the airport was facing two issues: the weather data system was non-operational due to a power surge, and there were problems with the lights on one of the runways.

NTSB investigator Dan Baker mentioned that while fog had blanketed the area, it’s not confirmed if the airport’s technical glitches contributed to the crash. The pilot aimed to land on a runway but had not reported any emergencies before the crash. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with flames engulfing cars and nearby homes. Eight people on the ground were injured, with one requiring hospitalization.

The NTSB plans to release a preliminary report within 30 days and a final report in the next 12 to 24 months.
