San Diego Hospitals Shine: Discover Why They’re Ranked Among the Best in the Nation

San Diego is known for having some of the best medical care in the U.S. A recent report from U.S. News & World Report highlights the city’s top hospitals and specialties for 2025-2026.

Several local facilities made impressive rankings. The University of California San Diego Health (UCSD), Scripps Health, and Sharp Health are prominent names that stand out. While none made the national “honor roll,” they ranked highly in various specialties.

Scripps La Jolla Hospitals, which combines Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital, excelled in many areas. They ranked 13th for diabetes and endocrinology, 18th for orthopedics, and 24th for cardiology, among others. They also received a “high-performing” designation in neurology, urology, and cancer treatments.

“Consistent recognition like this reflects the commitment of our healthcare teams,” said Chris Van Gorder, CEO of Scripps Health. He emphasized the quality care that the staff provides day in and day out.

UCSD took the top spot in the San Diego region for the sixth year in a row. Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla noted that this achievement showcases the dedication to patient care and the innovative research happening there.

The collaborative effort is evident. For instance, UCSD’s medical centers ranked well in several specialties: 28th for gastroenterology and 7th for obstetrics and gynecology. Their cancer and cardiology departments also received solid rankings.

Sharp Health also made its mark, with Sharp Memorial Hospital ranking 39th in ear, nose, and throat care, a unique specialty recognition for San Diego.
