Saquon Barkley Secures Game-Changing Contract After Stellar Rookie Season with the Eagles

Saquon Barkley has just made headlines again. After winning the Super Bowl, he secured a spot as the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The Philadelphia Eagles signed him to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension. This deal makes him the first running back to earn over $20 million a year, keeping him with the team until 2028.

Barkley expressed his gratitude on Instagram, thanking the Eagles, his teammates, and the fans. He is clearly excited to be part of Philadelphia. The new contract includes a staggering $36 million guaranteed, which is also a record for rushing backs. There are additional incentives that could earn him up to $15 million.

The Eagles’ General Manager, Howie Roseman, started the discussions for the extension. Barkley wasn’t actively seeking a raise, but his impressive performance undoubtedly spoke for itself.

Last season, Barkley accomplished amazing statistics. He rushed for an impressive 2,005 yards, making him the top rusher in the NFL. He also scored 13 touchdowns and added 278 receiving yards with two more touchdowns. On average, he ran for 125.3 yards per game, leading all players.

In the playoffs, Barkley didn’t slow down. He gained 499 rushing yards and scored five more touchdowns over four games, showcasing his talent on the biggest stage and helping his team achieve their Super Bowl victory.

Barkley was drafted second overall in 2018 by the New York Giants. During his time there, he had moments of brilliance but struggled with injuries. This led to the Giants opting for a big contract for quarterback Daniel Jones while placing a franchise tag on Barkley in 2023, which allowed him to explore free agency.

Now, as Barkley plays for the Eagles, the Giants will start the 2025 season without either player. It’s a new chapter for both teams, but for Barkley, it’s a rewarding moment after years of hard work and determination.
