Save Andersonville’s Unique Cowboys and Astronauts Men’s Lifestyle Store: New Owner Needed to Keep It Open!

ANDERSONVILLE — Cowboys and Astronauts, a beloved men’s goods store, is closing its doors next week, but there may be hope for a new beginning.

Co-founders Matthew Buccilla and Greg Lanier have decided to step away from the business they launched in November 2017. The store’s last day of business will be March 9, Buccilla shared with Block Club.

The shop offers a mix of men’s clothing, accessories, grooming products, and unique bartending tools. It also features a selection of National Park-themed items, including scented candles inspired by Buccilla’s passion for the outdoors and his dream of being a park ranger.

Buccilla has been considering this change for a while. He and Lanier, who are partners in both business and life, moved closer to Indiana Dunes National Park during the pandemic to immerse themselves in nature.

“I have always felt drawn to the woods,” Buccilla said. “That’s where we feel at home now.”

After March 9, the store will shut down, but Buccilla and Lanier are exploring options for potential buyers who would like to keep the business alive. “Cowboys and Astronauts means a lot to us and to many others in the community,” Lanier noted. “We truly believe in Andersonville and hope to see the shop continue.”

Buccilla has fond memories of Andersonville, as it was one of his first neighborhoods in Chicago. He moved here after a long-distance relationship with Lanier, and together, they created a space they envisioned as a welcoming shop for their friends and neighbors.
