The Siouxland Community Health Center recently hosted a fundraising celebration in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The evening was a special occasion to honor the dedicated staff and raise funds for vital community programs.
This health center serves about 100,000 residents each year, offering a range of services including medical, dental, family planning, and HIV care. During the event, they aimed to raise around $75,000 through silent and live auctions, along with direct donations.
Mark Donaldson, the CEO of Siouxland Community Health, discussed the center’s focus on supporting the homeless population. “We’re working hard to meet their basic needs, including our mobile shower service, which is costly to maintain. We’re also excited about launching a new mobile clinic to reach more community members,” he shared.
The evening also featured the presentation of the George Boykin Good Citizen Award. Mari Kaptain-Dahlen, the previous CEO of the center, received this honor for her significant contributions over more than a decade. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m thrilled to be recognized alongside someone like George, who has inspired me for years. Our staff truly deserves this acknowledgment for their hard work in caring for our patients.”
Community health centers like this one play a crucial role in local healthcare, especially for underserved populations. According to the National Association of Community Health Centers, these facilities save the U.S. healthcare system billions of dollars by reducing emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
