The Globe at Big White is set to close its doors on April 6, marking the end of an era. Owner Ross Derrick, who took over the restaurant in 2022, has big plans for the future. He aims to transform The Globe’s menu into a celebration of Canadian cuisine, ready for the 2025/26 ski season.

Derrick believes Canadian food is more than just a few iconic dishes. “It reflects the diverse flavors and traditions from generations of immigrants,” he explains. Growing up in Winnipeg, he had a mix of cultural influences—Jewish, Jamaican, Ukrainian, and more. He plans to use this rich background to shape the restaurant’s new offerings when it reopens.
Expect new dishes like venison, Okanagan apples, and traditional perogies, along with sweet maple syrup treats. There will also be a focus on Canadian craft beers, showcasing selections from some of the nation’s top breweries. Wine lovers can look forward to a menu that features only Canadian options.
As part of the farewell, The Globe is hosting a special Après Party on April 6, featuring music by Jon Bos. This celebration will be a great way to bid farewell to a beloved spot on the mountain.
While Derrick has established a solid presence with his other businesses, Broken Anchor and Derrick’s Steakhouse, this rebranding effort emphasizes a commitment to showcasing the rich tapestry of Canadian culinary heritage.
In recent surveys, many diners have expressed a growing appreciation for local cuisine, with 72% of respondents preferring to support restaurants that highlight local ingredients (Source: Restaurant Canada). This shift in customer preferences aligns perfectly with Derrick’s vision.
