Savoring Love: A Culinary Journey with A Harte Appetite

Some people eat just to survive, while others truly enjoy eating. I definitely fall into the second group. Food is my passion. The word ‘diet’ feels quite negative to me. It’s interesting that the first three letters of ‘diet’ spell ‘die.’

Samuel Johnson once said that a man thinks deeply about his dinner. I couldn’t agree more. Food plays a big role in my thoughts and happiness.

Julia Child nailed it when she said cooking isn’t too hard, but it needs practice and a love for the craft. I believe that. There’s something thrilling about finding a new recipe. Almost 20 years ago, I came across Julia’s recipe for Coulibiac—a stunning dish made with sole, mushrooms, and fish mousse wrapped in tasty pastry. I was inspired to make it right away, even if it was a recipe meant for six to eight people. That night, my family and I enjoyed a feast!

These days, while I’m not as spontaneous, I still love hunting for intriguing recipes. I’ve been known to ask chefs for their secrets and buy cookbooks just because one recipe catches my eye.

If you’ve ever been on a flight and noticed a torn recipe in the magazine, it might have been me. I totally understand the feeling that comes from discovering a new dish—it’s a joy that can rival finding a star in the sky.
