Microsoft is making some changes to its Office apps. Next week, users will have the option to disable a floating Copilot button that has been causing frustration. This button appears in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and tends to block important content in documents.
Many users, especially Excel fans, have expressed their dissatisfaction online. As Katie Kivett, a partner group product manager at Microsoft, pointed out, “While we see more people engaging with Copilot, we understand the need for better control over its appearance.” It seems Microsoft is listening and adapting its approach.
Currently, users can dock the button to make it smaller. Soon, they’ll also be able to move it to the ribbon, so it won’t hover over their work. This change will be available when users right-click the “Dynamic Action Button.”
This adjustment comes a month after Microsoft started removing some unnecessary Copilot buttons from various Windows 11 apps. It appears they are recognizing that too many features can sometimes create more problems than solutions.
Historically, this shift reflects a broader trend in tech where user feedback drives development. Companies like Microsoft are learning that user experience matters more than just adding flashy features.
