In Northeast Pennsylvania, local businesses are gearing up for the Super Bowl showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. From special menu items to big sales, everyone is getting into the spirit.
Moe Lotfipour, who owns Bagel Art Bakery in Dallas, is excited to sell around 3,000 to 4,000 Eagles-themed bagels. “I’m a big Eagles fan,” he shared. The bakery has created green and white bagels for this occasion, just like they do for other holidays with unique colors. He suggests ordering ahead, as these tasty treats are available only through Sunday while supplies last.
Gerrity’s Supermarkets is also buzzing with activity. Joe Fasula, the owner, described Super Bowl Sunday as one of the biggest shopping days of the year, right up there with Christmas and Thanksgiving. Customers flock to the store for favorites like hoagies, wings, pizzas, and snacks. This year, they’ve ordered a whopping 7,160 pounds of wings! Fasula hinted that during the lead-up to the game, about 25% of their advertising is focused on game day deals, illustrating the event’s impact on sales.
While Gerrity’s is a hub of excitement, other local spots are making their own plans. The Thirsty Elephant bar in Scranton is preparing for its second Super Bowl watch party. The owners plan to serve green beer and a buffet filled with classic game-day foods. Michael Souryavong, the owner, has a personal connection to the Eagles, having collected memorabilia since childhood, some even gifted by family and friends.
“It’s about camaraderie among Eagles fans,” Souryavong said, expressing his hopes for the game. He’s optimistic about the team’s chances, believing they are ready to win.
Over at Noir Dark Spirits in Scranton, they’re taking a unique approach by hosting a live band on Super Bowl Sunday, but they’ll still ensure the game is on TV. Josh Balz, the owner, aims to create a lively atmosphere with food options like wings and pizza, alongside a special green drink for the Eagles fans.
Whether enjoying a homemade bagel, grabbing snacks for a party, or joining local watch events, NEPA’s residents are ready to celebrate the Super Bowl with passion and community spirit.
