Scott Pelley Fired from CBS News
Scott Pelley, an ousted correspondent for “60 Minutes,” has publicly criticized CBS News and Paramount’s leadership following his termination from the network. Pelley alleges that the network’s new direction is damaging the show’s reputation in an effort to gain favor with the Trump administration.
Pelley expressed his views in a statement shared with various outlets, where he praised “60 Minutes” as the “most successful program of any kind in history” and highlighted its recent ratings achievements.
The veteran journalist attributed the show’s success to its focus on “integrity, quality, and humanity,” before accusing Skydance Media, CBS’s new owner, of abandoning these values.
He was dismissed “for cause” by Nick Bilton, the new executive producer, following conflicts regarding the firing of colleagues and his assessment of Bilton’s qualifications.
Pelley lamented the loss of “DNA” at “60 Minutes” after the dismissal of senior leadership and colleagues Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega. He claimed they were silenced for opposing “political bias” and alleged that new management directed him to include falsehoods in politically sensitive stories.
In his statement, Pelley outlined his disappointment with the current state of affairs at the network, expressing concerns over unprofessionalism and incompetence among new management, which he believes jeopardized the show’s integrity.
