Southern Connecticut’s women’s basketball team had an impressive game, beating Molloy 79-50 on Sunday. This win improved their record to 3-1, while Molloy fell to 1-4.
Hope Fox stood out with 25 points, making six out of seven three-pointers and grabbing nine rebounds. She also contributed with three assists and five steals. Taeya Steinauer added 13 points and four rebounds, while her sister, Rheyna Steinauer, and Iyanna Cotten each scored eight points.
The game’s pace shifted throughout. The Owls took the lead early, but Molloy responded strongly. By the end of the first quarter, Southern trailed 22-21.
In the second quarter, though, the Owls regained control. Strong performances from Fox and Steinauer pushed them to a nine-point lead at halftime.
The third quarter was crucial for the Owls. Fox hit two quick three-pointers, and with her scoring 14 points in that quarter alone, the team extended their lead to 65-43 heading into the final quarter.
The Steinauer sisters opened the scoring in the fourth, leading the team to their largest advantage of the game. Despite some late points from Molloy, Southern Connecticut secured their victory decisively.
Looking forward, the Owls will host Saint Michael’s on November 25, which is set to be a special Kid’s Game, offering free admission to all attendees.
