Seahawks Boost Roster: Julian Love and Jarran Reed Return from IR, Velus Jones Jr. Elevated from Practice Squad!

ATLANTA—The Seahawks are gearing up for their game against the Falcons with their healthiest lineup yet.

Safety Julian Love and defensive tackle Jarran Reed have been activated from injured reserve, which means they’re ready to hit the field this Sunday. This is great news for the Seahawks’ defense, which has struggled with injuries all season.

To strengthen their roster even further, the Seahawks have promoted running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad. He’ll step in as depth, especially since George Holani, the usual No. 3 back, is currently on injured reserve.

To make room for Reed and Love, the Seahawks waived running back Myles Gaskin, who signed back to the practice squad, and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna, who was claimed by the Green Bay Packers.

Incredibly, the Seahawks have yet to field their full defensive lineup. Key players have missed games due to injuries: outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu missed the first game recovering from a knee injury, and safety Nick Emmanwori left that same game early with an ankle issue that kept him out for three weeks. Devon Witherspoon, a cornerback, also suffered a knee injury during that game, which sidelined him for five weeks.

Love’s hamstring injury was another blow, limiting him to just one game this season so far. The injury list doesn’t stop there—Reed has battled wrist and thumb injuries, and the Seahawks have also played without cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe, linebacker Ernest Jones IV, and outside linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence at various times.

In a recent study by the NFL Players Association, injuries have shown to be a consistent challenge across teams, impacting overall performance and strategies. For instance, teams with fewer key injuries tend to have a higher win percentage, which highlights the impact of the Seahawks’ ongoing struggles this year.

As the team welcomes back key players, fans are optimistic about a turnaround. Online reactions have been positive, with many expressing excitement over the return of Love and Reed on social media platforms. With a healthier defense, this matchup against the Falcons could be a turning point for the Seahawks as they aim to turn their season around.
