Seahawks Open to Trade Offers for DK Metcalf: What You Need to Know from the GM

The Seahawks are considering trade offers for wide receiver DK Metcalf. However, General Manager John Schneider suggests it’s likely Metcalf will finish his contract with the team in 2025.

Schneider shared on KIRO-AM radio that the Seahawks are evaluating multiple teams and offers since news about Metcalf’s trade request broke. He emphasized that the team’s main goal is to do what’s best for the organization while also keeping Metcalf’s interests in mind.

“We hope to find a solution that benefits everyone,” Schneider said. “If not, we’re excited to have such a talented athlete on our roster in 2025.”

The Seahawks reportedly want a first- and third-round draft pick for Metcalf, who is looking for a new contract worth around $30 million annually. In 2025, his cap hit will be $31.9 million, the highest for an NFL wide receiver, as part of his current three-year, $72 million deal.

Schneider indicated that the upcoming NFL Draft on April 24 is the deadline for any potential trade. If a deal doesn’t happen, he believes Metcalf understands the business side of football, adding that the receiver has been professional throughout the process.

The news of Metcalf’s trade request came shortly after the Seahawks released Tyler Lockett, another key player, to save cap space. Schneider expressed disappointment that Metcalf’s news overshadowed Lockett’s release, which he had intended to honor more meaningfully.

Schneider mentioned they wanted to celebrate Lockett’s contributions, especially since past releases of franchise legends haven’t been handled as graciously. He noted how important it was to give Lockett a proper farewell.

As for Lockett’s future, Schneider told him to explore options on the market, but they would keep in touch. He expects Lockett will attract considerable interest as a veteran leader who still has a lot to offer on the field.
