Hello Seal Beach!

This week, let’s chat about something simple you can do to help keep our community safe and our environment clean.
Many people don’t realize that throwing away old or unused medications can be dangerous. If these medications sit in medicine cabinets or get tossed wrongly, it can lead to accidents, especially for kids and pets who might accidentally swallow them. Plus, there’s a risk that teens might misuse these drugs, contributing to the bigger problem of prescription drug abuse. Flushing medications down the toilet or putting them in the trash can also taint our soil and water, affecting wildlife and our ecosystems.
While we hold drug take-back events with the DEA twice a year, we understand that many medications still go unused or are tossed carelessly. That’s why the Seal Beach Police Department is working with the Orange County Healthcare Agency to offer free DETERRA pouches. These pouches are easy to use. Just add water, seal it up, and you can safely throw it away. It’s a small action that can lead to big changes.
You can grab your free DETERRA pouch at the Seal Beach Police Department at 911 Seal Beach Boulevard or at the Substation by the Seal Beach Pier. Together, we can keep our community healthy and safe.
