A jury in Fort Lauderdale found rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, guilty of a major fraud scheme involving over $1 million. The pair was charged with five counts of wire fraud after they allegedly used fake documents to acquire luxury cars, jewelry, and other high-value items without paying for them.
Each of them now faces up to 20 years in prison for each count. Sentencing is set for July, and both Kingston and Turner plan to appeal the verdict. Turner was taken into custody after the trial, while Kingston has been allowed to stay under home detention but with strict electronic monitoring, thanks to a bond secured with a $500,000 house and $200,000 in cash.

The fraud scheme involved taking items from various businesses, including a Cadillac Escalade and jewelry valued at $480,000. They claimed to have sent money through bank wires or other transfers, but prosecutors say no such payments were ever made.

According to a report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), business email compromise and similar scams have cost businesses over $1.8 billion in just one year.
