Aaron Donald has expressed interest in a potential return to professional football, according to a message he sent to Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report.
In a text message on Tuesday night, Donald stated, “I’m for sure flirting with the idea. Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.” Donald, who is 35 years old, has not played since 2023. His consideration for a return gained traction following the Los Angeles Rams’ acquisition of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett on Monday.
Rams coach Sean McVay addressed the matter of Donald’s possible return during Garrett’s introductory news conference. He mentioned, “Listen, if he’s interested. Here’s what I’ll say: You talk to Aaron, and you see what he’s saying about that.”
McVay noted that he has been in contact with Donald since the trade for Garrett. He commented, “Aaron is a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles. I talked to him about the opportunity to bring [Garrett] on board. If Aaron decides he wants to dust ‘em off at the age of 35, I bet you he can still do it at a pretty high clip.”
One significant hurdle for the Rams would be accommodating Donald’s salary under the team’s cap. However, it is suggested that they would work to fit the three-time Defensive Player of the Year into their roster if he chooses to return.
