A recent health scare has hit Seattle, affecting 35 people after consuming meals from Kanishka Cuisine of India. These incidents occurred during the restaurant’s “Fusion Thanksgiving Feast” between November 28 and 29, 2025. Although investigators are still looking into the matter, symptoms experienced include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, and fatigue, suggesting a potential issue with food safety.
Public Health officials have spoken to several of those affected to understand more about their symptoms and what they ate. Thankfully, there haven’t been any hospitalizations or fatalities reported, and no restaurant employees have shown illness.
During a health inspection on December 2, several food safety violations were uncovered at Kanishka Cuisine. Issues included improper cooling methods and inadequate space for food preparation. Despite efforts to educate staff, the restaurant still had unsafe practices and was temporarily closed. They’re now discarding unsafe food and retraining their team on proper safety protocols.
Recently, laboratory tests conducted on four individuals from the outbreak didn’t identify common pathogens like norovirus or Salmonella. However, the tests didn’t check for certain bacteria, like Bacillus cereus, which can cause quick foodborne illnesses.
Public health experts emphasize the importance of food safety, especially during busy seasons like Thanksgiving. According to a recent CDC report, about 48 million Americans get sick from foodborne illnesses each year.
