TOWSON, Md. (Mar. 9) – Senior Grace Costello shined at the Towson tri-meet, earning three impressive scores above 9.625. The Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team delivered a standout performance on uneven bars, achieving second place with a total of 191.725 points.
The Seawolves finished behind the home team, the Tigers, who scored 195.450, but they narrowly beat West Chester, who scored 191.425. This win marked their fourth victory of the season.
In the final rotation, the team finished strong, with four gymnasts hitting career highs and tying for the fourth-best uneven bars score in program history at 48.900. Sophomore Jamilia Duffus, junior Madelyn Gomez, and freshman Hannah Boyd all scored 9.8s, with Gomez and Boyd setting personal bests. Sophomore Avery Tillmanns scored 9.775, while sophomore Claudia Lessig matched her personal best with a score of 9.725.
UAA head coach Marie-Sophie Boggasch said, “It was an exciting finish to a tough meet. We had some uncharacteristic mistakes early on, but our strong finish on bars was really special.”
Costello, originally from New Jersey, competed near her East Coast hometown and scored 9.625 on vault, 9.65 on beam, and 9.675 on floor. Before joining UAA, she spent three seasons at William & Mary.
Senior Montana Fairbairn also performed well, tying for second on the floor exercise with a score of 9.825. Junior Ariana DeSouza contributed with a score of 9.75, helping the team finish with 48.000 on that event.
On beam, junior Breeann Spain and Costello both scored 9.65, with freshman Verena Wong scoring 9.55.
