Junior forward Sylas Williams shined in the Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team’s recent game, scoring 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds. The Seawolves secured a 63-50 win over Cal Poly Humboldt during the Sprite Tundra Tip-Off at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves, now at 7-2, also saw strong performances from seniors Bishop Tosi and Akok Machar, each contributing 12 points. They leveraged a significant 20-6 advantage in points off turnovers to clinch the victory. Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks struggled to convert on their chances, even with Zaveion Bineyard leading their scoring with 16 points.
Head Coach Rusty Osborne praised the team’s defensive efforts, noting how well they kept Humboldt from establishing their flow. “Our guys have really bought in and understand what we’re doing defensively,” he said. “We did a great job of limiting our turnovers too.”
The Seawolves kicked off the game strong, building an 8-0 lead. As they continued to control the game, they went into halftime leading 33-25. The Lumberjacks tried to close the gap, cutting the score to 40-34 early in the second half, but their momentum waned quickly.
Williams demonstrated accuracy from the field, hitting two of three from long range and going a perfect four for four at the free-throw line. Other key players included Jeremiah Coleman, who posted nine points, and John McFadden, with six points and three assists, impacting the game in crucial moments.
As the Seawolves gear up for their next matchup against Westmont, they look to extend their winning streak to eight games.
