A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a security vehicle caught fire outside the West Oaks Mall in Ocoee, Florida.
Around 12:39 a.m., police responded to the scene and spoke with the security guard. He reported that his patrol car was ablaze near the food court entrance. The fire department was able to put out the flames but found an item set on fire inside the vehicle. This item had “gofireproducts” written on it.
Investigators reviewed security footage and saw a man approach the car before walking away. He seemed to toss something into a nearby drain. Officers also noted a bump under the man’s hoodie. Later, a pair of orange gloves was found in the drain.
Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Daniel Wright, described as a transient. He was arrested and charged with second-degree arson and criminal mischief. Currently, he is being held without bond.
Experts remind us that arson is a serious crime. According to the FBI, nearly 50% of arson incidents involve structures like cars or buildings. Each year, thousands of fires are intentionally set, leading to injuries and significant financial losses.
