KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Great news for fishing fans! Visit Knoxville has just announced that the Bassmaster Classic will be returning to the city in 2026. This tournament is a big deal, especially since it will be the third time in seven years that Knoxville hosts it.
Kim Bumpas, the president of Visit Knoxville, shared her excitement. “It’s phenomenal for any destination to host three Bassmaster Classics in such a short time, and we’re thrilled it’s happening here,” she said.
The last Bassmaster Classic in Knoxville took place in 2023 and drew an impressive crowd of over 163,000 people during its three-day run.
Chase Anderson, the CEO of B.A.S.S. and a Knoxville native, emphasized the strong connection within the bass fishing community. “Our anglers and the organization are followed closely by passionate fans,” he commented. Anderson understands how much this event means for Knoxville and the quality of fishing available on the Tennessee River.
“The lakes and rivers here are beautiful, and the community is very supportive,” he added, reflecting on his own experiences growing up in the area.
The tournament is scheduled for March 13-15, 2026, and will feature 58 of the world’s top anglers competing for the best catch at Fort Loudon and Tellico Lakes. The impact of this event on the local economy is significant, with a reported $35 million generated during the last tournament through hotel bookings, dining, and shopping.
Professional angler Robert Gee sees the event as a personal homecoming. “I grew up fishing on Fort Loudon and Tellico Lakes,” he explained. “This has always been my home lake.” Gee, a graduate of CAK and UT, is eager for the chance to compete in front of a hometown crowd in 2026.
“I just want to make the classic here and sleep in my own bed,” he said, looking ahead to the prestigious tournament and its $300,000 prize.
In addition to the fishing competition, the Bassmaster Classic will feature the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo at the Knoxville Convention Center and World’s Fair Exhibition Hall, which will have over 200 exhibitors.
