Nashville, TN – Lt. Gov. Randy McNally has appointed State Senator Dawn White from Murfreesboro as the chairman of the Senate Education Committee for the 114th General Assembly. In addition, she will continue her role on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator White expressed her gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I am honored to be selected for this position and thankful for Lt. Governor McNally’s trust.” As a former teacher, she understands the importance of a strong education system in Tennessee. She aims to work with her colleagues to enhance educational outcomes for students, provide necessary tools for teachers, and expand educational choices for families.
Before entering politics, White spent seven years as a kindergarten teacher in the Murfreesboro City School system. She holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist degrees in education from Middle Tennessee State University.
Lt. Gov. McNally praised Senator White, noting her leadership skills and dedication to education. “Her commitment to education and experience as a teacher will serve her well in this role,” he said. He believes she will play a key role in Tennessee’s education reform efforts.
Senator White represents District 13, which includes parts of Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and Eagleville, as well as surrounding communities. She is currently serving her second term in the state Senate.
On Friday, January 31, 2025, Senator White will appear on WGNS from 8:15 to 9:00 AM to discuss the early days of the General Assembly.
