The Pittsburgh International Airport is stepping up to help TSA agents during the government shutdown. They have partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide free meals for these essential workers.
This effort began last Thursday and will continue until the shutdown is over. PR manager Bob Kerlik mentioned that the airport is keen to support TSA agents who are working without pay. “We want to ensure our federal partners are taken care of,” he said.
Every two weeks, a food pantry will be set up on Thursdays and Fridays, offering over 4,000 pounds of fresh produce and 200 boxes of food. TSA agents can pick up these supplies at the airport maintenance office, where their break rooms are located.
Brian Gulish, a spokesperson for the food bank, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “Just because pay is disrupted doesn’t mean food shouldn’t be,” he said. “We want to ensure these workers, who keep everything moving, don’t have to worry about their next meal.”
In addition to the pantry, food concessions in the terminal have also joined in by offering free meals twice a week for all shifts. This collaboration aims to support TSA agents during this challenging time.
