Farmington, PA – Freshman Jace Hulett from Boerne, Texas, made waves on the golf course by winning the Shepherd’s Rock Individual title with a solid 2-under-par score of 70. He finished two strokes ahead of the competition at this highly competitive event, which saw participation from 29 golfers.
This was only Hulett’s second college outing, but he showcased his talent with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 seventh hole. Over three rounds, he totaled 208, which ties for the ninth-best three-round total in Seton Hall history at a par-72 course.
In the team competition, the Seton Hall men’s golf team finished third at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational. Sophomore Will Hennessee fired an impressive 4-under-par 68 to help secure this placement. The Pirates collectively posted a score of 847, coming in at 17-under-par. Host West Virginia took the top spot with a remarkable 36-under-par.
Hennessee’s performance helped him climb 21 spots to tie for 19th with a 2-under-par total of 214. This marked his third sub-par tournament, and he performed particularly well with three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 eighth.
Eli Shah, a junior from Newtown Square, Pa., also made headlines, tying for ninth place. He finished the tournament with a career-best score of 211, including an even-par round on Tuesday.
Other notable performances included sophomore Luke Nolan, who achieved a 15th place finish with a score of 213. He also had a personal best this week. Senior David Lally was just one stroke behind Nolan, finishing at 214, while graduate student George Fricker completed the tournament at 217.
Recent studies show that collegiate golf participation improves players’ performance significantly in their areas of study, suggesting that the discipline learned on the course can positively affect academic results. This finding emphasizes the importance of sports in developing young athletes both mentally and physically.
Looking ahead, Seton Hall will prepare for The Bryson Invitational at the Daniel Island Golf Club in South Carolina from October 13-15. The journey continues for these skilled golfers as they strive to improve their game and showcase their talent.
