Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in 5 Divisions – Flood Warnings Issued for 10 Districts!

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in several divisions, including Dhaka, over the next three days. Starting Sunday afternoon, many areas can expect significant rain, ranging from 44 to over 88 millimeters in just 24 hours. This strong rainfall is due to the active Southwest monsoon.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has also alerted residents in low-lying zones like Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, and Rangpur about potential flooding. They note that water levels in several rivers, including the Teesta, could exceed danger levels, leading to flooding in vulnerable areas.

Since the morning, heavy rainfall has disrupted road connections to Khagrachhari. A landslide has blocked regional routes in Rangamati, causing traffic delays. Local authorities are working to clear the roads and ensure safety.

Maksudur Rahman, an executive engineer with the Khagrachhari Roads and Highways Department, mentioned that teams are actively removing debris. Meanwhile, Subhuti Chakma, a weather officer, reported 53 millimeters of rainfall in just the past 24 hours. The continuous rain has caused rivers and canals, like Chengi and Maini, to rise, prompting warnings for those living near hillsides.
