Former Shadyside graduate Matt Nardo became head coach at Muskingum, which made the decision easier for Micker. “I had other options, but Muskingum is close to home. It was a perfect fit,” he explained. Coach Nardo, who understands Micker’s talent from his time in high school, played a significant role in Micker’s decision.

Micker was a versatile player during his senior season, accumulating over 1,000 all-purpose yards primarily as a wide receiver and tailback. He even threw a touchdown and returned a kick for a stunning 93-yard touchdown. His defensive stats were equally impressive, with 127 tackles, four interceptions, and multiple awards, including first-team All-Ohio Division VII honors. “I was surprised to receive those awards. I thought they might choose more linebackers,” he shared.

Shadyside football coach Mike Kernik praised Micker’s competitiveness. “He played every play and will be missed for his leadership,” Kernik noted, hoping younger players will learn from his example.

Micker is eager to bring his talents to Muskingum, where he will primarily play as a defensive back. He also plans to pursue a major in business. “I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and God for supporting me,” he said, highlighting the importance of faith in his journey.

As he starts this new chapter, Micker will be joining fellow Shadyside alum Logan Crozier at Muskingum University, creating a bond that could enrich their college experience. Commitment and leadership like Micker’s are crucial in sports, and they often inspire other athletes to follow suit. With a promising future ahead, Micker is ready to tackle new challenges in both sports and academics.
