PARKERSBURG — Coplin Health Systems has promoted Sherry Keller to the role of Director of Nursing. This is an exciting step for both Keller and the organization.

In her new position, Keller will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of care in Coplin’s clinical department. The organization is reorganizing how it manages its nursing and Certified Medical Assistant departments, and Keller will be at the forefront of these improvements.
Keller’s expertise will be especially important for training programs focused on preventive care. She will support initiatives such as the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and the Vaccine for Children programs, serving both West Virginia and Ohio communities. According to recent data, these preventive programs have led to significant improvements in early detection and overall health outcomes in the region.
Rhonda Krugman, Coplin’s chief quality officer, expressed confidence in Keller’s abilities. “Her clinical background and understanding of federally qualified health centers will be vital for the growth of our nursing department,” she said.
Keller isn’t new to the organization. She started as a staff nurse at River Valley Family Care in 2018 and became the nursing coordinator in 2019. This experience has shaped her understanding of the needs of patients and the demands of nursing in an evolving healthcare landscape.
Dr. Darrin Nichols, chief medical officer, highlighted the growing need for specialized management in the nursing department, stating, “As our nursing and CMA departments expand, it’s clear we needed someone dedicated to guiding the team and ensuring high standards in patient care.”
With rising demands for healthcare services, positions like Keller’s are essential. Studies show that effective nursing leadership contributes to better patient outcomes and team performance. This trend is particularly relevant in light of recent staffing shortages in healthcare, which have underscored the need for strong leadership and clear communication within clinical teams.
Keller’s promotion comes at a pivotal time for Coplin Health Systems. As they strive to improve patient care, her leadership will be integral to fostering a culture focused on quality, consistency, and growth within the nursing staff.
