Shilo Sanders Faces Ejection in Buccaneers’ Preseason Finale After Throwing Punch at Bills TE

Shilo Sanders’ preseason did not end as he or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had hoped. The rookie safety was ejected during their final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills after a heated exchange with tight end Zach Davidson. Following a block from Davidson, Sanders retaliated by slapping his helmet, right in front of an official. This led to a penalty for unnecessary roughness and his disqualification from the game.

This incident is particularly challenging for Sanders, who was already fighting for a roster spot as a third-stringer on the Bucs’ unofficial depth chart. Head coach Todd Bowles emphasized before the game that this week was crucial for players like Sanders to showcase their skills.

“Shilo’s very aggressive, very young, very hungry. He can play well in the box and give 100% in special teams,” Bowles noted.

Shilo’s journey to the NFL has its complications. He went undrafted in 2025 after two years at Colorado, where he played under his father, Deion Sanders. Before that, he earned recognition as a second-team All-SWAC player during his family’s time at Jackson State. Adding to his challenges, Shilo is dealing with an $11 million judgment due to a personal bankruptcy case stemming from a past incident in high school.

In contrast, his brother Shedeur, a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, is also attracting attention this preseason, although he faced difficulties in an early game. Their father recently spoke about their resilience. Deion Sanders shared, “My deal with my kids is that they don’t have to be THE best but they have to give THEIR BEST.”
