The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is making headlines this spring by producing a record five Fulbright Scholars. This includes four students and one alum, all ready to take on the world through research, teaching, and cultural exchange.
UT Dallas President Prabhas V. Moghe praised the achievers, highlighting their ambitious goals rooted in diverse academic fields. He said, “Their success shows the potential of UT Dallas students to make a real impact globally.”
The Fulbright Program, started in 1946, has connected nearly 450,000 individuals to study and teach in over 160 countries. This year’s UT Dallas scholars come from various disciplines, showcasing a rich mix of experiences.
Dr. Douglas Dow, the associate dean of the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College, noted the program’s versatility. Participants can research independently, teach abroad, or continue their studies. “Fulbright fosters cultural exchange and personal growth,” he mentioned.
Now, let’s meet the Fulbright Scholarship winners:
Shreyas Chandra
A senior in neuroscience, Shreyas will be heading back to Denmark for a year. He’ll focus on researching chronic fatigue syndrome, aiming to find treatments that could help many. Shreyas said, “I want to contribute to research that lasts.” His love for exploration extends beyond academics; he looks forward to participating in Danish culture through dance and local events.
Noah Clark (BS ’25)
Noah will serve as an English assistant in Taipei, Taiwan. A certified teacher, he speaks English, Chinese, and Spanish. “I want to connect with students and learn from them,” he expressed. His goal is to bring insights from East Asia back to the U.S. for cultural and educational exchanges.
Nandita Kumar
Nandita, studying public policy, will teach in Thailand. She fell in love with the country during a previous trip. “The world is my classroom,” she said. Her real-world experiences have shaped her ambition to become a public interest lawyer, focusing on gender issues and empowering the youth she encounters.
Alisa Model
With her roots in Moldova, Alisa feels a deep connection to the country. She aims to share American culture while teaching. “Being a cultural ambassador is vital,” she stated. Alisa’s journey has been influenced by her experiences in law and social work, setting her on a path toward advocating for vulnerable communities.
Liam Nichols
Liam combines his passions for math and philosophy. He will teach English in Madrid, Spain, and has a knack for languages. After participating in various study abroad programs, he noted, “This experience is a perfect bridge to my teaching career.” He appreciates the hands-on learning he’ll gain through the Fulbright year.
The Fulbright opportunity is more than just a scholarship; it’s a platform for meaningful engagement across cultures.
