LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Hub City Brews recently faced a tough situation. They found themselves temporarily shut down by health inspectors due to serious violations like moldy food and expired items.
Located at 7706 Milwaukee, Hub City Brews was ordered to close for 24 hours to address 44 violations. Here are some of the major ones:
- A container of peppers was visibly moldy, dating back to December.
- Uncut lemons were also found with mold.
- Many items, including a pan of sauce and thick white sauce, lacked labels and dating.
- Some sauces showed expired use-by dates as far back as November.
- A deflector plate in the ice machine was dirty and in contact with ice.
- Raw bacon was stored above ready-to-eat lemons.
- All prep tables were dusty and dirty.
- There was no soap at the hand sink in the men’s restroom.
- The floor drain near the walk-in cooler was clogged and full of wastewater.
Due to these violations, the inspector noted that there was a lack of food safety knowledge displayed at the restaurant. Hub City Brews was allowed to reopen after a thorough re-inspection showed that most issues were corrected.
Another establishment, Raider Burrito at 2102 19th, also received bad news with 23 violations. Some of the key ones included:
- Ready-to-eat beef fajitas were 15 days past their discard date.
- Hotdogs were held 8 days past their use-by date.
- A knife and other utensils were dirty or damaged.
Raider Burrito’s violations were also addressed by the time of the inspection.
The Catch, located at 5111 82nd, had 17 violations, with some significant issues such as:
- Raw fish was stored above 41 degrees, which is unsafe.
- Clean utensils still had food residue.
- An employee washed their hands for only five seconds instead of the required 20 seconds.
Like the others, The Catch was able to correct most violations during the inspection.
