A recent veterinary report has shed light on the tragic deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, along with their dog, Zinna. The report from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture’s veterinary lab revealed that Zinna, a female kelpie mix, likely died due to dehydration and starvation. Her body was found in a closed crate with a mostly empty stomach.

Authorities discovered Gene Hackman, 95, and Betsy Arakawa, 65, dead in their Santa Fe home late last month. Robert Gruda, the couple’s veterinarian, noted that Zinna had undergone significant surgery recently. He emphasized that Betsy was a devoted dog owner. “She really doted on them,” he shared. Fortunately, the couple’s other two dogs, Bear and Nikita, are alive and are currently being cared for at a dog daycare they are familiar with.
