The situation escalated when Konig reportedly became extremely jealous after accusing his wife of infidelity. According to a temporary restraining order his wife filed, he started to control her communications beginning in December 2024. Their hike was meant to be a celebration of his wife’s birthday, but it took a dark turn. She described how he pushed her toward a cliff while yelling, “Get back over there, I’m so f**king sick of you!” If she had fallen, she believed she would have died.

Witnesses along the trail heard her screaming for help. One hiker, Amanda, said she saw Konig attacking his wife and quickly intervened. Konig’s wife was able to escape to safety and received help from the hikers nearby.

After the attack, Konig fled but was apprehended later. Reports indicate he even FaceTimed his adult son, stating, "I just tried to kill (his wife) but she got away." This shocking revelation underscores the depth of the crisis he was facing.

After initial court appearances, he was indicted on charges including attempted second-degree murder. His wife has since been granted a temporary restraining order for her safety and the safety of their children.

Konig is currently held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. His medical license remains active, but he has been suspended from his position at Maui Memorial Medical Center during the investigation into this case. This incident highlights the serious issue of domestic violence, which affects many individuals across all demographics. According to recent data, nearly one in four women and one in nine men experience severe intimate partner physical violence. Experts remind us that these situations often escalate and emphasize the importance of seeking help.

The case is under close scrutiny to ensure justice is served. Authorities and advocates alike stress that domestic violence in any form is unacceptable and that the legal system must address such heinous acts with the seriousness they deserve.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, resources such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline are available for support.
