Shocking Revelations: New York Financier Howard Rubin and Former Assistant Charged in Brutal Sex Trafficking Operation

Howard Rubin, a retired financier from New York, and his former assistant, Jennifer Powers, have been indicted for running a sex trafficking ring. The allegations include violent acts that resulted in serious injuries to multiple women.

The indictment claims Rubin misused his wealth to lure women into engaging in sexual activities. U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella described how Rubin reportedly subjected these women to acts that went far beyond what they consented to, causing both physical and emotional suffering.

From 2009 to 2019, Rubin allegedly recruited women for BDSM encounters, which he filmed and documented. Powers is accused of organizing these meetings, handling travel, and managing payments. Prosecutors claim that Rubin would pay women up to $5,000 per encounter—less if he was unhappy with their performance.

The pair allegedly spent over $1 million on operating this trafficking scheme, which often took place in luxury Manhattan hotels. They reportedly transformed a bedroom in a rented penthouse into a hidden “sex dungeon.” This room was equipped with various BDSM tools, some of which allegedly inflicted severe pain.

According to court documents, many of the women suffered lasting injuries, including one woman whose breast implant required surgery due to complications during an encounter. Reports also detail that Rubin and Powers encouraged drug and alcohol use among these women.

In a striking example of their alleged misconduct, prosecutors noted that even when women expressed their injuries to Powers, she dismissed their concerns, often blaming them instead. Rubin even purportedly provided a “safe word” for women to use, but it was often ignored.

This case reflects a broader societal issue surrounding sex trafficking, which has unfortunately been part of many high-profile cases. A report from the National Human Trafficking Hotline showed that in 2021 alone, there were over 10,000 reported cases of human trafficking in the U.S. The ongoing challenges in addressing this issue reveal the need for continued awareness and legal action.

Rubin, who previously gained wealth through his finance career at firms like Merrill Lynch, now faces severe legal consequences. If convicted, he could face life in prison, while both he and Powers face minimum sentences of 15 years.
