Hyderabad: Shreyas Iyer is set to lead India A in a multi-day series against Australia A. The matches start on September 16 in Lucknow. Iyer’s selection comes after he was left out of the Asia Cup squad, despite impressive performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. He was the top scorer in the recent Champions Trophy, with 243 runs at an average of 48.60.
The India A squad includes notable players like Devdutt Padikkal and Prasidh Krishna, while Dhruv Jurel will serve as vice-captain. KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj will join the team for the second match, replacing two players from the first game.
The series consists of two multi-day matches, scheduled from September 16-19 and September 23-26. Following these, limited overs matches are set for September 30, October 3, and October 5.
Iyer’s leadership role might hint at future possibilities for him in the national team, especially as Rohit Sharma nears retirement. Iyer previously guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL finals in 2024, showcasing his capability as a leader.
The India A squad is made up of:
– Shreyas Iyer (C)
